Quite a deep colour. Quite rounded nose, with a fleshy palate. Ripe fruit with a tannic streak. Good balance. Harmonious with good length.

It all starts with a sniff
Roger is an internationally acclaimed scientist, wine expert and author of the best-selling book The Wine Diet. This has been translated into seventeen languages and published worldwide in more than twenty countries.
After obtaining a PhD from the University of London, Roger undertook research for five years at the University of Geneva. The wide choice of wines available here, particularly from France, Italy and Spain, provided the ideal opportunity to educate his palate and become something of a wine connoisseur. In 1991, he returned to London to work with Nobel Laureate Sir John Vane at the William Harvey Research Institute.
As a wine drinker undertaking scientific research, Roger developed a unique system for analysing wine and rating it - based on over a decade of groundbreaking research.
In recognition of his research into wine, Roger was made a Commandeur of the Renaud Society in 2009, and a Sénateur of the Viguerie Royale du Madiran in 2010.
Roger has analysed each wine on sale here and given it his unique Roger's Rating.

Detailed scrutiny of the wines
There is so much variety in wine quality today, but we know the wines we sell are well-made because each has been analysed by our scientist and wine expert, Roger Corder. No other wine retailer performs such a rigorous examination of their wines.
So that you can rest assured you are drinking the best, we do more than just taste every wine we sell. Roger’s Rating is the world’s first - and only - scientifically objective approach to wine quality, revealing far, far more than could ever be done by taste buds alone.
A wine only progresses to the Roger's Rating stage if it has passed Rosemary George’s Taste Rating. The two ratings combine to give a wine our unique Vinopic Score for overall quality.

Scientist and wine expert
Roger’s unique rating ensures that our wines are the very best there are because it reveals far more than taste alone could ever do.
Many modern red wines, described as fruity with soft tannins, completely lack the characteristics needed for real enjoyment with food. White wines often have too high a level of alcohol as well as other flaws that cannot be readily detected by taste alone. So whether it’s red or white, Roger analyses wines looking for the key quality indicators of a skilfully made, top quality wine.
Red wines: much of Roger’s analyses focus on whether the wine has a good and well-balanced level of grape tannins. This ensures the harmonious complexity needed for a wine to complement food. Roger’s Rating for red wines combines the insights from these scientific analyses with his taste evaluation to give a rating out of 20.
Well-structured red wines with moderate levels of well-integrated tannins score between (14 to 17 points). Those with a more intense structure, which are suitable to drink now and also, have exceptional potential for further ageing, are rated between (15 to 20 points).
White wines: Roger’s Rating is based on his taste score balanced by insights from scientific analyses on components such as sulphites, alcohol and residual sugar levels.
