Irouleguy is one of the most original wines of south west France, made principally from Tannat, with some Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. However, the Tannat has quite a different expression from Madiran. With Irouléguy, you have a more mountainous wine, from the foothills of the Pyrenees. The colour is deep; there is spice on the nose, with some berry fruit and peppery acidity on the palate. Quite intriguing and very original, and just the thing if you want to go off the beaten track.
